Portugal: Roadtrip Impromptu

We’ve done roadtrips before, from Vancouver to Yellowstone, from London to Cornwall and in Southern France but this was perhaps the most memorable and roadtrip by far. The stunning sunset at the coastline still reminisces.

We didn’t have a lot of time to plan this roadtrip, the flight was a last minute booking let alone planning the trip itself. We took on this trip with a very specific purpose. We weren’t here to just visit the top attractions of Lisbon but we were here to enjoy living like Portuguese for a week; eat what the locals eat, drink what the locals drink. The train in Portugal was convenient but we wanted to drive the coastline and venture into some of the smaller villages than the big cities.

The flight from London to Portugal was three hours, giving me enough time to nap to compensate for the cheap early 6am flight. The weather forecast promised a good 20 degrees for the following week breaking the record of the warmest spring break in London. The sky was clear all throughout the flight and soon I was able to see the red brick tiny lego-like houses just below our wings. We pulled in by the Oporto coast and were welcomed with the warm humid sea breeze. No map, not direction. But we knew to follow our nose to Oporto, the city of legendary wines.
